Countdown viewers’ shock as 666 pops up in the numbers round… and Rick Astley is in dictionary corner
Channel 4 show became the devils work on Wednesday's episode
COUNTDOWN viewers were left shocked on Wednesday when the digits 666 appeared on their screens.
The numbers - which are associated with the Devil - came in the numbers round, and fans of the show were quick to comment on the situation on social media.
One wrote on Twitter alongside a screenshot: "Mark of the devil... #countdown" while another wrote: "weeeellllll.... countdown is possessed".
It wasn't the only thing from the episode to get people talking though, as a number of viewers got excited by the fact 80s pop legend Rick Astley was a guest in dictionary corner.
The 51-year-old, who made a stomping comeback to the charts last year with his album 50, joined Susie Dent to check the contestants words at the end of each round, and people were delighted to see him on the show.
One wrote on Twitter: "#countdown with @rickastley yes please! x" while another wrote: "I spy with my little eye @rickastley countdown what a treat in the afternoon".
A third joked: "Rick Astley is a guest on Countdown. It's hard for him to get the word rounds with vowels, cos he's never gonna give 'U' up... #countdown".
Rick and the Devil's visit to Countdown comes just days after viewers were left in hysterics after Susie spelled out a rude word.
The famous Dictionary Corner whizz left host Nick Hewer red faced when she revealed the naughty saying.
The letters the contestants had to work with were MTHIAEDHS.
But naughty Susie was quick to point out that you could spell "s***head" from those words.
Upon revealing the word she said: "I apologise for this one in advance, it's in the dictionary."
She went on: "We're only saying this because it gets you one letter further, but it's s***head, I apologise."
Host Nick then said: "Susie wash your mouth out with soap!"
The camera then flashed to Rachel Riley who had spelt the word out, and was trying not to laugh.
