Who is Miriam Stoppard? Resident of The Real Marigold Hotel, TV doctor and Don’t Ask Me expert

MIRIAM Stoppard has been whisked away to take part in the second series of India-based reality show, The Real Marigold Hotel.

But who is Miriam? Where would we know her from before and what is the show about?

Who is Miriam Stoppard?

Dr Miriam Stoppard, born Miriam Moore-Robinson, is a 79-year-old TV personality who has been a prominent health expert on TV for decades.

Her area of expertise lies as a children's doctor, for which she has released several books - and received an OBE for her services to healthcare and charity in 2010.

She was married to playwright Tom Stoppard from 1972 to 1992 and had two children with him.

Tom also had two other children from his previous marriage to Josie Ingle.

She has eleven grandchildren.

Where would I know Miriam from?

Miriam rose to prominence in the 70s as a medical expert on TV shows including Don't Ask Me and Where There's Life.

She featured as a panellist and expert on talk show The Wright Stuff from 2004 to 2012.

The star also appeared on gameshow Call My Bluff in the late 70s and has appeared on BBC Breakfast and This Morning as a health expert.

What is The Real Marigold Hotel about?

The Real Marigold Hotel is a reality TV show which sees eight senior celebrities to India to see if they would retire on the other side of the world.

In this series, the gang are sent to the village of Kochi – which is in the tropical Kerala, Southern India.

They will be staying in a luxury 16th century mansion during their time on the show.

As each episode goes on, they will be followed as they experience the ‘real life’ of the area.

In one episode they are taken to the area’s famed waterways.

Other participants this series include Bill Oddie, Rustie Lee and Lionel Blair.

The Real Marigold Hotel continues Wednesdays at 9pm on BBC1.
