The soon to be superstar boy band were yet to become the household name at the time they paid a visit to the students and their teachers and were on building up their name and following as part of the South coast tour which saw them meet children and hand out gifts.

The fresh-faced group - including a 16-year-old Robbie Williams - were filmed by a member of staff who gave the clip to former PE teacher at the school, Dave Reavely.

He admitted he "dumped it in his cupboard" where it was left collecting dust for years.

Mr Reavely, 62, then contacted a fine art and antiques valuation expert who told him the tape could sell for anything between £7,000 and £10,000.

Mr Reavely recalled the performance at the now-closed school, and said "the name Take That didn't mean anything to them".

He said: "On the day we were told that there was this band coming and that they were called Take That. It didn’t mean anything to us.

“We thought it was a strange name but I guess that was similar to how the Beatles grew – from nothing.

"Originally I was given the film and dumped it in my cupboard where I kept all my things.

“It was a member of staff at the school who recorded it.

“The band performed some break dancing and I can remember that they all mingled with the students and handed out presents."

Mr Reavely, of Seaford, East Sussex, said he was shocked by its high value as he said: "I was pleasantly surprised but I understand the high price is due to its unique nature.

“It’s great timing, especially with band member Gary Barlow’s new show Let It Shine having just been on prime ITV Saturday night viewing.”

The footage has been valued by expert Vernon Ward, 65, who will sell the clip to a private buyer.

The band were famously put together in 1989 by Manchester-based manager Nigel Martin-Smith and have been through various up and downs over the decades.

However, the band now consists of Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald after the unexpected departure of Jason Orange in 2014.

Speaking to about Jason's choice to quit, Gary admitted: "When Jay left we were all ready to quit. Game over. We sat in our manager's house in London and he wrote our statement for the press. For me it was the saddest day in the whole story of the band.

Mark stated: "He's still part of the band - we keep him in the loop of everything's that's going on. I still think he'll be back for the anniversary tour. I'm sure he will. I think Robbie will be back for it too. But then again I'm always optimist."

The band have been open about the effects fame has had on their lives with Gary Barlow opening up about how being shunned by the industry after the band first split led to him gaining weight thanks to depression which led to him overeating and using marijuana.
