HE helped wake the nation for seven years on Capital Breakfast – calling it the “best job ever”.
But Roman Kemp has now lifted the lid on why he stepped down in March, revealing he felt like work was ruling his entire life.
In an exclusive chat with Bizarre, he said: “In a way, you get your life back.
“I went through a period of spinning too many plates and I think you come to a point where you want to know if your work is controlling you too much.
“My work was controlling my happiness.
“I had no time to work out what made me happy.

“I was working constantly.”
In fact, despite being more grateful than ever for his glitzy career, Roman tells me it’s the little things that give him most joy.
He said: “I was in a privileged position where someone made me breakfast every day.
"Now I make my own breakfast, which I love.

“Once I got to 30, I was like, ‘I don’t want work to control my life.
"Work is a secondary part of my life’.”
Reflecting on his new chapter, he added: “It feels like I now have a world I never knew existed.
“It was so much fun, but you are in your own bubble.
“It has been hard turning down work, but you have to make those decisions to get better and I know I had to for myself.”
Now he’s had time to settle into his new routine — which includes presenting The One Show and a co-hosting role at the Euros with Rio Ferdinand — Roman says he is more aware than ever of what makes him tick.
And despite having nothing but love for his former Capital co-hosts Sian Welby and Chris Stark, he revealed he got one over on the prank-loving pair before leaving.
Roman explained: “When I was at Capital, I was in control of the WhatsApp group.
“The day that I left, I was like, ‘I am refusing to be ejected from this group’.
“Instead, at 10.01am, when everyone was going, ‘Well done’, I secretly deleted the entire group.
“I blew up the WhatsApp group.
“I wasn’t having it.
“I opened that group ten years ago . . . I was going to be the one to close it.”
It comes as Roman teams up with Vodafone to front their latest campaign.
The network has released new data revealing the average adult is now part of 83 active group chats.
In fact, 26 per cent of us communicate with friends, family and work colleagues through group conversations more than one-on-one messaging.
Even Roman’s showbiz parents, Martin and Shirlie Kemp, love a WhatsApp group.
He confessed: “I made the mistake of asking mum what her most-used emojis were the other day and it included the aubergine.
“She said she uses it for suggesting going to dinner with friends, as if it means a salad, but I’m not sure.
“I hope she’s having me on or she’s sending some seriously X-rated messages.”
But, much like me — whose phone is always buzzing — he admitted he gets tired of group chats, adding: “The worst is when you’re added to one and people get your number from it.
“Though I do use Soccer Aid as a way to harvest celebrity numbers in case I need them.
“I actually save them all in my phone as they are, which is ridiculous, but if I used code names I would forget.

“Earlier this month, I lost my phone and I had this sickening feeling, but luckily some lads found it who were going to Mighty Hoopla festival so I met them there.”
