Wayne - brother of footie star Gary - confirmed he was trying to protect a female friend when he was viciously attacked in the early hours of Wednesday.

Today, Wayne said he was "doing ok" as he revealed the extent of his injuries.

Posing with his thumb up, he wrote: "I have a few stitches and a swollen lip.

"It could have been much worse so I count myself very fortunate I wasn’t standing 2 yards further back, as my head would have impacted the wall.

"Obviously the video is very disturbing to see especially for my family.

"The papers were very accurate and it was a simple case of me just trying to protect a girl from being harassed."

He also thanks fans for their "messages of concern" and said the support had been "really overwhelming".

Wayne collapsed after being hit once by the yob at 4am in Ibiza on Wednesday.

Shocking video shows the dad-of-four hold his arm up to try to defend himself as the man rushes towards him and smacks him outside Eden bar.

Wayne then flops to the ground and onlookers said he was out cold for at least six minutes - and that he had blood pouring from his mouth.

A large group of at least 10 people, including Wayne, can be seen in the clip all shouting over each other.

A shocked witness told The Sun the two men had started arguing after the thug and his mates began pestering Wayne's female pal, who is in her 20s.

As Wayne tried to leave in a taxi, the man - with a group of six pals - squared up to him and slammed the door shut.

Moments later, he struck Wayne then ran off.

The brutal strike connects with Wayne's chin - sending him flopping to the floor.

The attacker and his pals quickly fled the scene as Wayne was surrounded by concerned onlookers.

He was knocked out at 4.04am - before coming back around around six minutes later at 4.10am.

Further footage today emerged showing a heartless yob perform a WWE-referee style count as Wayne lay unconscious on the ground.

Wayne eventually left in a taxi around an hour after the punch was thrown.

Party-loving Wayne is well-known for hosting celebs including footie ace Jack Grealish at his beach club.

He has a strained relationship with former England striker and Match of the Day host Gary, 63.

Speaking about their relationship earlier this year, he said: "It's not so good to be honest, we don't really speak very often. I'll always be his number one fan."

He is the black sheep of the Lineker family and has virtually no relationship with Gary.
