What is a perforated ulcer?

Stomach ulcers, also known as gastric ulcers, are open sores that develop in the lining of the stomach.

The most common sign that you may have an ulcer is a burning or gnawing pain in your tummy.

An ulcer will appear when the layer that protects the stomach lining from stomach acid breaks down and allows the lining to get damaged.

In most cases an ulcer is a relatively minor condition, complications can pose more serious risks to a person's health.

A rare complication is when the ulcer perforates, or bursts - this is known as peritonitis.

What happened to Tara Palmer-Tomkinson's nose?

Years of cocaine abuse in the late 90s took its toll on Tara’s nose, leaving it on the brink of collapse.

In 2006, she had a £6,000 operation to rebuild her septum – the wall of cartilage between the nostrils.

However, four years later and her nose looked swollen and dented – thought to be the result of poor surgery.

Conscious of criticism, Tara had fillers to straighten her nose in 2011 in time for attending the Royal Wedding in 2012.
