Morgan Spurlock death updates — Super Size Me director dies at 53 as film fans praise McDonald’s documentary

DOCUMENTARY director Morgan Spurlock has died at the age of 53.

Spurlock was best known for directing the McDonald's documentary, Super Size Me, which explored his journey exclusively eating the fast food chain for a month.

The film was nominated for an Oscar in 2004.

Spurlock's family announced his death in a statement. He died in upstate New York after battling cancer.

Film fans are paying tribute to the director with one on X, formerly Twitter, "RIP Morgan Spurlock I absolutely loved that documentary."

    Morgan Spurlock's 2017 documentary, Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken! was intended to analyze marketing tactics of fast food companies through his own restaurant.

    The two projects failed to achieve the mainstream success of his first documentary, Super Size Me.

    Morgan Spurlock detailed sexual harassment in his workplace writing, "Something I thought was funny at the time, but then realized I had completely demeaned and belittled her to a place of non-existence."

    He then admitted to paying her off after she quit so that she wouldn't go public about his behavior.

    "I paid for peace of mind. I paid for her silence and cooperation. Most of all, I paid so I could remain who I was," the post read.

    Google also decided to cut ties with Spurlock, announcing at the time that Super Size Me 2 would not be available to stream on YouTube Red.
