Actor Tom Hardy’s bank account takes massive hit as he loses whopping £2million in one year despite growing Hollywood success
WHEN an actor’s stock rises in Tinseltown, their bank balance usually shoots up.
But there is a big plot twist in TOM HARDY’s ascent.
I can reveal £2million has gone from the British superstar’s personal reserves in the last year despite his massive career success.
Tom’s reserves in his firm 33 1/3rd — which channels much of his earnings as an actor — nosedived from £2.8million in 2015 to £696,980 last year.
It’s a staggering drop for the star, which comes just weeks after I told, left, how he took another £2million hit making his latest BBC drama series Taboo.
Last night a source said of the latest figures: “Tom is a big spender and these figures prove that. It takes some serious investment to give away more than £2million in 12 months.
“Tom’s career is riding high and he isn’t short of offers so he can afford the hit.
"He has enough cash to keep himself comfortable, and of course there is a chance he may have simply shifted the money from one account to another.
“But it’s a big amount and for anyone else would be a worry.”
I have to give Tom some credit, though, for putting his money where his mouth is and splashing his own cash instead of milking freebies like a lot of celebs.
He is passionate about his work and not afraid to pump his own money into film and TV projects.
Last month I told how his production company blew £2million on Taboo after spending £10.4million which they hoped to make back by selling the show around the world.

Tom, whose previous flicks include Inception, The Dark Knight Rises and The Revenant, has a big year ahead with the summer release of CHRISTOPHER NOLAN blockbuster Dunkirk, where he stars alongside ONE DIRECTION’s HARRY STYLES.
There is even a chance he could still become the next James Bond, after declining to comment last month on the rumour he’ll replace DANIEL CRAIG.
Becoming 007 wouldn’t be a bad way to bump up his earnings.
BIZBITS
- DESPITE being the top-grossing actress of 2016, the gender wage gap is still all too real for SCARLETT JOHANSSON. She explained: “I’ve had to fight for everything that I have. It’s such a fickle and political industry. Sexism is real.”
- A YEAR after his death, DAVID BOWIE is still pleasing fans with new music. Following the digital release of his No Plan EP, it has also been announced that the record will be released on CD this month and vinyl on April 21.
Elton's tribute to generous George
SIR ELTON JOHN has paid an emotional tribute to his late pal GEORGE MICHAEL.
Speaking on his Beats 1 radio show, Elton John’s Rocket Hour, which will air from 2pm today, he said: “I wanted to do a little tribute on the show because not only was he a good friend, but he was probably one of the most brilliant songwriters this country’s ever produced.
“And certainly one of the best vocalists ever.
“He was the kindest, most generous man, and did it without wanting any publicity.
“I’ll miss him so much for his music but more than anything for his humanity.”
During the show, Elton recalls performing at WHAM!’s final show and plays a series of songs “that get sadder and sadder and sadder because I’m so sad about it”.
The songs in question are:
- George Michael - One More Try
- Leon Russell - A Song For you
- Nina Simone - I Put a Spell On You
- Ray Charles - Drown In My Own Tears
- Bruce Springsteen - Streets of Philadelphia
- Bob Dylan - Blowin’ In The Wind.
I’m sure George would have appreciated Elton’s kind words.
BIZMETER: MUSIC
- Charts ELBOW are racing towards the top of the album chart with their new release Little Fictions. They have sold 28,000 copies of their seventh album since Friday, giving them a comfortable lead in the chart update ahead of last week’s No1, the La La Land movie soundtrack, which is currently at No3.

Justin and Ed are the karaoke kings
ED SHEERAN and JUSTIN BIEBER singing their hit Love Yourself together for the first time is an occasion worthy of the Oscars or Grammys.
But the biggest male superstars in music opted to perform the track in less glamorous surroundings.
The pair chose a dive bar in Tokyo where they belted out the No1 hit – which Ed wrote for Justin
Ed said: “I quite like that the song is just having its own life somewhere.
“Me and Justin actually sung that on karaoke together two days ago.
“He was in Tokyo. It was a really weird night actually, a really weird night. We went to a bar called Train Bar and did some shots, then we went to a karaoke bar and sung our own song.
“He was singing my songs, so I was singing his songs . . . and then we both sang Love Yourself.”
The track, included on Justin’s 2015 album Purpose, became the Canadian’s third No1 and spent 17 weeks in the top ten.
It was also nominated for two Grammys.
Those Japanese karaoke punters had better have appreciated the performance.
JAMIE O'HAREM
JAMIE O’HARA’s romance with BIANCA GASCOIGNE is already starting to cool.
The footballer partied with a host of woman at London nightclub Libertine on Sunday as she worked at her nearby club The Gaslight.
Jamie was last seen kissing Bianca at the CBB final on Friday, but she seemed like the last thing on his mind two days later.
A fellow partygoer said: “Jamie was surrounded by girls. He wasn’t quick to bat off any attention.”
CBB romances never last long outside the house.
Kanye's off Trump
KANYE WEST was vocal in his support for DONALD TRUMP last year and even visited him in New York in December.
He tweeted at the time: “It is important to have a direct line of communication with our future President if we truly want change.”
However, he has now deleted the message along with several other posts about their meeting.
US sources last night said Kanye had been opposed to Trump’s decision to ban visitors from several countries – a week after his wife KIM KARDASHIAN condemned it.
Perhaps that bid to run for office in 2020 is back on after all.
