Calum Best admits his struggles with trust have stopped him finding love
The Celebrity Big Brother star confessed that his issues are holding him back
CALUM Best has revealed that his mum Angie has been desperate for him to have therapy for years as trust issues have stopped him finding love.
Speaking to Lorraine on Monday morning, Calum who left the Celebrity Big Brother house last week, revealed how tough it was for him to bare all on Channel 5’s In Therepy.
He said: “It was a raw, it was a struggle I battled with the therapist and I didn’t wanna say things when I probably should.”
And while Calum, who is celebrating his 36th birthday today, admits that he learned from his time on the couch he’s not sure he can continue – despite his mum Angie’s advice.
“What I’ve learned about therapy is that it’s not easy and I’m not sure that it’s something that I can continue, I probably need it.
“My mum’s been telling me I need it for years, but with therapy you need to find someone that you are comfortable to talk to.”
Lorraine told then told Calum that he clearly finds it very hard to trust people and suggested it was because of having to deal with his late alcoholic dad, footballer George Best.
“That’s correct, yes”, said Calum as he went on to explain how he’s become very guarded.
“I’m very well guarded and for years having to speak about that side things I’m very protected, I know the right answers to make sure no one comes in further than that.
He added: “On a personal level it’s unfortunate, it’s tough for me to open up, trust people, meet somebody, trust them.”
The reality star also agreed with his mum’s warning that he wasn’t going to find love in nightclubs.
“Well I know I got myself into trouble when I got outside the house going to nightclubs, but my past was so related to that it’s what I know well.
“I’m trying to work on a new path on meeting people in the right place and the right things and I hope to find somebody without a doubt. I’m 36 today, so there’s still time to find somebody.”
After last week’s In Therapy when Calum opened up about what it was like to grow up in the shadow of his dad’s fame, and how he fell apart after his death in 2005, viewers took to Twitter in their droves to praise the star.
One wrote: “Loving Calum’s honest, this is so deep #InTherapy” while another added: “@CalumBest listening to your story on #InTherapy absolutely heartbreaking, stay strong and keep the faith you’ll get there.”
