Alex, 44, explained: "I was taking part in a programme and I had a reading and it was interesting because I’ve had some things happening to me.

"I first had an experience with George's spirit on the day of the funeral. As I was walking past the bathroom, every single tap and the shower went on, my friend with me was freaked out as well."

Alex - who was married to late Manchester United legend from 1995 to 2004 - continued to explain some of the many strange occurrences that led her to believe she was being haunted.

She told the hosts: "I don’t know that it’s George but it only started after he died.

"I never really wanted to mention it because it’s quite private. It’s only because it’s  been picked up everywhere that I’m talking about it."

Speaking exclusively to The Sun about her experience, Alex admitted she was told by a medium that the Man United legend, who died in 2005, loved her too much to leave.

She was given the spooky reading this week by American medium Michael Codori after a number of strange happenings in her home.

Alex said: “It was a lovely surprise that George came through. Michael gave me details of a very special and personal occasion that was only known to George and myself.

“For Michael to give me such incredible detail on such a personal and intimate moment absolutely blew me away. I was speechless. It could have only come from George.

“He told me that George loves me too much to leave. That makes sense as I have never had a relationship work out since George died. I can’t move on, something stopping me from moving on. I think it’s probably George.

“I do believe there is something in it, but I don’t believe you should live your life by it. Too many things have happened over the last 11 years that have been witnessed by a lot of people, even my dad will say: ‘well that’s George’. Often furniture gets moved that is too heavy for one person to move, but it’s been moved.

"It’s been going on since he passed away.

"This is the third house I’ve lived in and it’s still going on.

"He’s followed me, he’s part of the furniture. It doesn’t bother me really.”

Alcoholic George died in hospital aged 59 from organ failure.

He is widely accepted as one of the all-time greats of the game but struggled with his demons after hanging up his boots.
