Met Gala 2024 LIVE — Demi Moore named ‘forever an icon’ in daring wallpaper look as fans call her ‘best dressed’

DEMI Moore proved why she's always been that girl at the 2024 Met Gala.

The movie star wore a custom dress from British-American designer Harris Reed that was created out of vintage archival wallpaper.

Fans were stunned by the daring ensemble, with one writing on X, formerly Twitter, "Demi Moore - forever an icon."

"Demi Moore is officially best dressed of the night!" another declared.

This year's theme was The Garden of Time, inspired by the Metropolitan Museum of Art's newest exhibition, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.

Some celebrities took the theme literally, embodying visual representations of time and gardens, while others opted to explore what it meant to "reawaken" something in fashion.

Other looks that had fashion fans talking included Zendaya's Maison Margiela ensemble, Jennifer Lopez's Schiaparelli gown, and Sydney Sweeney's bold new hairstyle.

  • Where the Met Gala is held

    The Met Gala is an annual event held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, traditionally occurring on the first Monday of May each year (except for 2021, when it was held in September due to Covid-19 restrictions).

    Attendees of the Met Gala usually opt to stay in nearby hotels, often gathering at select celebrity-favorite venues.

    Last year, the Mark Hotel stood out as a popular spot for spotting celebrities.

    Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor, 29, ascended the iconic steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday, May 6, clad in a bespoke dress by Victoria Beckham.

    This marked her as the inaugural individual to grace the annual fashion affair in attire crafted by the 50-year-old designer.

    Embracing the theme Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, Beckham skillfully embodied it through the Bridgerton actress's resplendent pink lace gown, adorned with meticulously hand-cut flowers and an elegant long train.

    "In a nod to this year’s ‘Sleeping Beauties’ theme, the ethereal silhouette was hand-crafted from archival lace, and embellished with over 300 lace appliqué flowers, hand-cut and hand-sewn onto a tulle base," Beckham captioned a on Instagram.

  • The numbers behind the look

    Jennifer Lopez told La La Anthony on the Vogue red carpet that her look has 2.5 million crystals.

    She explained that the look took eight hours and has four wings on the gown.

    J-Lo has attended the Met 14 times and is co-chairing the event this year.

    Fashion fans are very critical of the Met Gala men this year online.

    “THE BOYS ARE SO BORING LIKE WHY EVEN BOTHER ATTENDING,” one viewer wrote on X, formerly Twitter,

    Rita told  that the beads aged “back to the first and second century BC,” adding they are, “older, I think, than anyone on this planet.”

    Some fashion admirers loved the look, tweeting, “Rita Ora’s team sourced beads from across continents and archives around the world spanning across time & history to create this look, and if THAT’S not an incredible interpretation of this theme nothing is.”

    Images created by artificial intelligence circled the internet, fooling many viewers into thinking that Rihanna and Katy Perry were in attendance at the Met Gala.

    The images painted the pop stars in beautiful garden-inspired gowns as the two appeared to be on the steps of this year's gala.

    "I saw like 2 dresses… now which one is real?" a commenter asked about Katy on social media.

    "Never Misses, Never Stumbles, Definition Of Beauty, Charm And Class, Queen Riri Till Infinity," another user wrote after thinking that the viral photo was actually of Rihanna.

    "Met gala is over ?? no rihanna? no beyonce? no billie eilish? no taylor swift? no katy perry? no lady gaga? no blake lively? Wth??" one tweet read.

    "Well we may not have gotten Rihanna, Blake, Katy, Gaga, correctly themed gowns or unique menswear but at least we all had fun complaining about not getting those things. See you next year," another added.
