Helen Flanagan didn’t like how Coronation Street bosses turned Rosie Webster into a catty nightmare

The actress is making her Corrie comeback after five years away and this time Rosie's going to be much nicer

HELEN Flanagan has admitted she didn't like how Coronation Street bosses treated her character before she left the show.

The actress - who plays Rosie Webster in the ITV soap - is making a return to the show after five years away, but she needed her character to be less "catty" to make her comeback.

"She's turned a corner," Helen explained. "Rosie has come back a lot more likeable now which won't be boring to watch. I just think it's easier to play. It feels more real to play it like that.

"I didn't really enjoy playing Rosie when I was younger in a nasty and catty way. I didn't like it because it didn't feel real to the situations if you know what I mean."

But there are some benefits to being on the show - being glam for the 9-5 before she goes back to being too busy for makeup while on mum duty.

"The best thing about playing Rosie is that she's so glam. I love getting my make-up done and my hair extensions blow-dried every day, which you don't get to do when you're a mum."

She added: "When I was in the show before, everyone was always jealous of my wardrobe and I definitely had the longest time in hair and make-up.

"Rosie and Sophie do become window cleaners to help out their dad Kevin. The outfits are not very glam. But I am hoping it is short lived!"

But she's glad to be back. She says: "I've wanted to come back for a while so I was delighted when they emailed me. Becoming a mum does change you, it gives you more of a purpose. It's made me a lot happier. I have grown up a lot and I feel more mature now.

But it's not just Sophie who returns... she brought big sister Rosie back from the States with her
Rosie - played by Helen Flanaghan - is set for dramatic scenes on the ITV soap

Rosie returns to Weatherfield with a shock new storyline that sees her arrive with a load of drugs, without realising it.

"She's had this boyfriend who has stitched her up and the police come knocking. She's so naïve she's not realised. I think her return comes as a shock to Sally and Kevin, and his new girlfriend Anna isn't too impressed."

But as per usual, it doesn't take Rosie long to find lust on the cobbles - this time with hunky solicitor Adam Barlow.

"Adam's a bit of a ladies' man, it would never be an actual relationship. He chats her up and there is an attraction. He's not very nice and it doesn't work out.

"I liked it when she was with Jason Grimshaw. But I don't know who else there is on the Street for her."
