Lost footage of Coronation Street star Andrew Whyment auditioning for The X Factor emerges – but all is not as it seems
The soap favourite blasts out his rendition of Kings of Leon hit Your Sex Is On Fire - while in character as hapless Kirk
LIFE could have been VERY different for Coronation Street's hapless Kirk Sutherland if actor Andrew Whyment had been given the nod from Simon Cowell in his first X Factor audition.
The hilarious soap favourite has also been revealed as a budding popstar after his stint on the talent show back in 2010 - a decade after he first stepped foot on the Corrie cobbles - was revealed.
Wearing a jazzy palm tree print shirt Andrew in role as Kirk announced to Simon: "My name's Kirk Sutherland and I'm 28."
The show's head honcho replied: "OK so tell me a bit about you," and he replied: "Errm well I work in a knicker factory, erm I've sung in the Rovers (Corrie's pub) a couple of times.
"Erm we sing in the factory every day - we tend to take it in turns."
In the video posted by the he then rallies up the live crowd and cheers: "Come on Manchester!" while clapping his hands.
The TV star then shows off his high-pitched voice when he chants out the opening lyrics to Kings Of Leon hit Your Sex Is On Fire while tapping his right foot to the beat.
Meanwhile Simon, dressed in his signature grey T-Shirt, appears bemused as he munches on a sweet while watching his performance.
Yet despite his less than tip-top vocals the crowds respond with a huge cheer, before finishing off the 'your sex is on fire' section of the song's chorus.
Their enthusiasm prompts judge Nicole Scherzinger to stand up and wave her arms in the air as she raves to the track.
