Mel C admits she wouldn’t rule out a Spice Girls reunion despite turning down GEM plans
The Spice Girl star revealed the girl group could all reunite in the future
MEL C has revealed that Spice Girls fans might still get to see the girl group reunited in the future, despite her decision to opt out of the GEM reunion plans last year.
The Spice Girls star made the surprise admission during her early morning appearance on Lorraine on Wednesday when the host quizzed her about reunion talk.
Melanie, 43, answered: "Maybe we will reunite again. I know there’s been so much speculation with the 20th anniversary that just went by. In fact there has been speculation ever since Geri Halliwell left the group in 1998.
"It would have been the perfect opportunity to do it but it didn’t work out. Everyone is doing things and on different paths. We never say never."
"It's going to be 21 years since we first came out as the Spice Girls. It's gone by so fast."
Sporty Spice made her feelings clear about why she chose not to joining the Spice Girls reunion last year with an emotionally penned letter.
She said: “I’d love to play huge arenas across the world, sing our brilliantly bonkers pop songs and relive our former glory. It is of course a very lucrative opportunity too.
“But we were a five-piece band. Didn’t we reach a peak with the Olympics?
“There’s a lot to be said for bowing out on a high note. For me, the absolute pinnacle of my Spice existence was being watched by a billion people around the globe belting out Spice up Your Life on top of a black cab at the 2012 London Olympics.
“Anything less than the full line-up just didn’t feel like we’d be doing justice to the band or the fans.”
The Sun broke the news that the Spice Girls were reuniting without Victoria Beckham or Mel C to celebrate their 20th anniversary with a Hyde Park show next summer.
Melanie continued: “Truth be told, earlier this year, after several face-to face meetings with the girls, I made the difficult decision not to be part of a proposed reunion with Emma, Geri and Melanie.
“Victoria had already bowed out, understandably with the demands of her fashion label and her rather large family.
“The hardest part for me was letting people down, the girls, the fans, civilisation?! Unfortunately something didn’t feel quite right and I had to follow my gut.”
Meanwhile, Mel had a mini reunion with Victoria Beckham on New Year's Eve and the singer explained how it came about.
She explained: "It was amazing. I was asked to do a performance at a great resort in the Maldives and it just so happened to be where Victoria and some of my friends were holidaying.
"I told her I was doing the Two Become One in the set and I joked that I had to get her up with me. And she said, 'Yeah, of course'."
She concluded: "Before I started the song, I said this is your last chance and next thing I knew she was sashaying across the dance floor and she got up there with me. It was great fun."
