Explaining her initial diagnosis, 28-year-old Nicola told : "I revealed my symptoms, he seemed anxious."

Continuing her recount, she went on: "'You should go to the doctor,' he said. At first I batted away his concern. Surely he was just being overprotective.

However it turned out Jessica was suffering from a severe disease - cervical cancer.

"After a few weeks, he was insistent I went. Perhaps it was best to get checked out - just in case," Jessica recalls.

While she was later handed the difficult news that she had stage one cervical cancer which spread to her pelvic lymph nodes.

Following surgery and treatment, Jessica said she is feeling 'healthy and happy' and glad to have her two-year-old son Eddie in her life and for all the support Nick showed.

Nick and Jessica split up just months ago, after briefly reconciling following news Jessica was battling cancer.

She recovered shortly after, and they later split, but the former couple have remained close friends ever since.

Now, Nick has shared a promotional shot of him with a pink smear across his face, as he backs the #SmearForSmear campaign.

The description behind the campaign reads: "Encourage the ladies in your life to reduce their risk of cervical cancer and attend their smear test when invited."

He captioned it: "I'm so proud of the work @MoreJessicaRose is doing to raise awareness in women and save lives."

Fans quickly shared their support, as one wrote: "Excellent work! Nurse who did my last one is my neighbour's mum - embarrassing, but I felt invincible after!"

While another added: "I agree so important. Well done @MoreJessicaRose X."

And one wrote: "I can't say enough to support the #SmearForSmear campaign - my smear in October has saved my life!"

Meanwhile one Twitter user shared her worries with the TV star, writing: "I've had so many bad experiences that the appointments terrify me... #cantdoitagain."

To which Nick replied: "But you really must - ask @MoreJessicaRose - it could save your life."
