Piers Morgan brands Ewan McGregor a ‘paedophile lover’ and reveals Trainspotting star ‘refused to be interviewed on GMB unless presenter was dropped’
Good Morning Britain host has slated the actor after he pulled out of TV gig earlier
PIERS Morgan has slammed Ewan McGregor after he pulled out of a scheduled appearance on Good Morning Britain earlier today in protest at the TV host's jibes about the Women's March against Donald Trump.
Piers, 51, was incensed after the actor refused to be interviewed by him due to a difference in political beliefs, throwing the show into chaos.
Writing in his - headlined 'Memo to anyone who voted Trump or Brexit - paedophile-loving hypocrite Ewan McGregor holds you in utter contempt' - Piers lifted the lid on what happened backstage at ITV today.
Slamming the star's decision to stay away rather than debate his beliefs, Piers fumed: "Had we done the interview, I might have asked him how his heroic support for women justified him working for director Roman Polanski, a self-confessed and convicted child abuser, on the film, The Ghostwriter.
"Polanksi pleaded guilty to the statutory rape of a 13-year-old girl, then fled America to escape a lengthy prison sentence.
"‘He’s a legendary filmmaker, one of the best,’ gushed McGregor in a 2010 interview about the paedophile, for whom Meryl Streep once gave a standing ovation at the Oscars.
"A new warrant was issued for Polanski’s arrest during the movie’s post-production stage.
"McGregor, who has four young daughters, was asked about it and said: ‘I felt sad for Roman because he’s an old man who I’m incredibly fond of. I like him as a man.’ "
He said: "McGregor arrived with a large Hollywood-style entourage at the ITV studios in London, where I currently co-host Good Morning Britain.
"They were all escorted to the green room, where an argument then started with our editorial team because McGregor apparently hadn’t realised I was going to be involved with the interview.
"He refused point blank to do it unless I was removed and it was performed by my co-host Susanna Reid.
"This demand was denied, as were further demands for the interview to be severely shortened and to be restricted purely to talk about his new movie, T2 Trainspotting.
"So, enraged that he couldn’t do the interview on the terms he wanted, McGregor left.
"In the studio itself, we were warned there may be a slight ‘issue’ with McGregor appearing on the sofa, five minutes before he was due on."
The actor was due to chat about his latest film project on the ITV breakfast show.
Piers then spotted a tweet on the Hollywood star's page which announced: "Was going on Good Morning Britain, didn't realise @ was host. Won't go on with him after his comments about ."
The ex-newspaper man announced: "Ewan McGregor, who was supposed to be our big guest, just tweeted this."
He added: "Because I didn't think the march was a fantastic thing, because I didn't agree with the politics of it, Ewan McGregor, who is an actor, who was here to talk about a movie, has decided he can't come and talk about his movie, which I think is a shame.
"And kind of plays into my view maybe actors should stick to talking about films and not get whipped up about politics that is not their game."
Clearly furious about his decision, Piers raged: "I'm all up for having a debate, but don't just not turn up.
"It's unprofessional."
Trying to smooth over the situation, Susanna said she only showed for work with her gobby colleague because it was in her contract.
Later on, Piers wouldn't let things lie, and joked: "I think he knows I don't like Star Wars - that's why he didn't come in."
After the show he then replied directly to Ewan from his own Twitter page, reinforcing his views and writing: "Sorry to hear that @mcgregor_ewan - you should be big enough to allow people different political opinions. You're just an actor after all."
