SEVENTIES rock legends Deep Purple are gearing up for their upcoming UK tour set to get stadiums moving with rock hits such as Smoke on the Water and Black Night. 

The esteemed rock group is one of Britain’s most influential bands with an astounding 100 million records sold worldwide.

Over 40 years have passed since the band's biggest selling hit, 1972’s Smoke on the Water which has sold more than two million copies today.

Now they are set to return to stages in the UK with their =1 More Time Tour, supported by 90s indie-rocker Reef.

They group was once listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as ‘the globe’s loudest band’ for a concert three years before at London’s Rainbow Theatre, formed in 1968. 

Their shift from progressive rock to a heavier metal sound in the form of their seminal 1970 album Deep Purple in Rock, helped to cement the prominent rock outfit as one of the most innovative groups in rock history.

Along with fellow hard rock giants Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, the Hertford-formed group are referred to as the ‘unholy trinity’ of British hard rock and heavy metal.

Over the years, the popular rock collective have experienced many highs and lows as well as line-up changes since their inception almost 60 years ago.

The one-time lead guitarist for the group, Tommy Bolin, died of a drug overdose in a Miami hotel room in December 1976 at the age of 25.  

The group made a triumphant return 8 years later in April 1984 with their eleventh studio album Perfect Strangers.

The album would be the most successful album recorded by the reformed line-up of the group.

Current group members are Ian Gillian, 78, Ian Paice, 75, Roger Glover, 78, Don Airey, 75 and Simon McBride, 44. The impactful group received their long awaited honour into the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. 

The success for the group still continues, with their last album 2020’s Whoosh! becoming their highest charting album in 46 years, peaking at number 4 in the UK Album Charts.

The multi-platinum rock act have been touring consistently since their 1960s hayday, and will be returning to the UK later this year. 

The first stop on their UK tour will be at Birmingham’s over 15,000 capacity Resorts World Arena on November 4th, followed by London’s iconic 02 Arena on November 6th, Leed’s First Direct Arena on November 7th and Manchester’s AO Arena November 9th.

The influential group will be ending the UK leg of their tour on November 10th at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro.
