Michael Greco is heading back to the BBC 15 years after leaving EastEnders as he lands a role in Casualty
The British actor, famed for his role as East End cad Beppe, has returned from Los Angeles and will be back on screens this year
Michael Greco has whipped fans into a frenzy after revealing he is heading back to the BBC to appear in one of its biggest weekly soaps.
However those hoping to see him reprise his iconic role as East End cad Beppe di Marco in EastEnders might be a little disappointed – as he is swapping the mean streets of Walford for a trip to A&E in Casualty.
Announcing the news on Twitter on Thursday, the 46-year-old actor and professional poker player revealed his happy news.
“Am delighted to be joining the cast of @BBCCasualty,” he wrote.

“Such an amazing show that's maintained such incredibly high standards,” he added.
Michael’s agency, Winterson’s, offered further details, tweeting that the actor would be playing a character called Phil Paterson on the medical drama.
It is unclear, however, if he is playing a full-time member of the cast or if he will simply appear as a patient in one episode.
Michael shot to fame as heartthrob Beppe in the BBC’s flagship soap EastEnders in 1998 – staying on the show until 2002.
He has spent the past ten years living in Los Angeles where he has picked up roles in hit TV series Revenge (which starred Emily VanCamp played Emily Thorne) and Western drama Hatfields & McCoys (alongside Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton).
Last December, Michael suggested a return to Albert Square could be on the cards for him – to play his most well-loved role again.
"I’d never shut that door," he teased at the time.
"If the offer was there, you’d have to consider it,” he said.
"I’ve been in LA off and on for the last 10 years and I don’t watch much telly, so I haven’t caught up with EastEnders for a long time," he added.
