EastEnders SPOILER – Hot on the heels on an eventful Christmas disaster hits AGAIN
Disasters in soapland come in many shapes and sizes.
Some, like Phil’s drunken spiral to self-destruction, are accidents just waiting to happen (by the way, when will they rebuild poor Max’s car lot?).
Others, like Fatboy ending up squished to death (though we’ve still never actually seen the body…) are completely out of the blue.
Perhaps the most disturbing, though – the Coronation Street tram crash, the Emmerdale helicopter smash, the Hollyoaks fun fair annihilation – are the ones that come when the locals are simply going about their daily business when the Grim Reaper intervenes.
Similarly, Monday appears to be just another day in Albert Square.
There’s been a bit of a barney on the market between Martin, Kush and Carmel, another rumpus among the Fox family and some more teenage stress for Bex and Louise – but then, without any warning, disaster strikes at the very heart of Walford in some of the most dramatic scenes we’ve seen on the soap for a while.
In fact, this week’s episodes of EastEnders are so unexpected in the wake of that rather uneventful Christmas that we’ve been sworn to secrecy over quite how this latest tragedy comes about. Suffice to say, some of our favourite characters will be caught up in an event that’s set to change Albert Square for ever.
One of the great unexpected twists of the EastEnders festive season was Max Branning’s out-stretched hand of forgiveness to Phil when the hospitalised Mitchell had just chucked him a pillow to smother him with.
Since then, Max the Forgiver has been there for brother Jack – even on bedtime-story duty – and turned the other cheek when Abi has kicked off at him.
However, as Dot will testify with Her Nick, saintly conversions are few and far between in Walford.
Now, as he continues to settle back into normal life in the community, is there more to all this than meets the eye?
Emerald Gets Evicted
It’s hard to tell which has caused more trouble: Denise having a baby with Phil or her wanting to have their child adopted.
The latter has certainly caused a massive rift between Denise and her sister, with Kim informing her – in typically dramatic fashion – that their relationship is now over.
One thing we do know is that their mum is not helping.
When Kim hears Emerald trying to persuade Vincent to have a word with her, Kim flips and chucks her out.
Luckily, Denise is there to take her in, but surely that’s a case of ‘out of the frying pan and into the fire’ with the way Denise is feeling at the moment…
Will the real Max Branning please stand up?
