Who died in the EastEnders bus crash story line, what is Max Branning up to and how did Martin Fowler get better so quickly?
THE lives of eleven residents of Albert Square were thrown into chaos during the terrifying bus-crash during EastEnder's highly publicised Disaster Week.
Viewers watched with bated breath as a bus - packed with fan favourites - ploughed into the Albert Square market and slammed into a bridge.
As friends and family of all those who live around E20 rushed to help those mowed down by the bus as well as the characters trapped inside, concerns grew that not everyone would survive.
But who exactly survived the horrifying Disaster Week? And who perished? We have all the details here...
When was Disaster Week on EastEnders?
Disaster Week stared on EastEnders on Monday 23 January 2017 and concluded on Thursday 26 January 2017.
Viewers were able to catch up on the after the show's original broadcast.
The disaster in question saw a double decker bus - the 764 to Barking - lose control and crash through the Albert Square market before hitting a low-level bridge.
How did the bus crash on EastEnders happen?
The bus driver appeared to suffer a heart attack while driving several residents back to the square but when Denise Fox tried to help him, the bus span out of control and destroyed the market before crashing into the bridge.
Louise Mitchell, Shakil Kazemi, Bex Fowler, Keegan, Denise Fox, and the bus driver all looked to be in danger on the bus, while countless more characters were in the path of it.
Once the bus hit the bridge it came to an abrupt halt and there was a moment of stunned silence in the square before screams for help rang out.
What characters were involved in the EastEnders Disaster Week?
As mentioned, Louise, Shakil, Bex, Keegan, and Denise were all on the bus and looked like they could perish as smoke suggested the double decker could explode.
Alarm bells were also raised for Market inspector Carmel Kazemi, fruit and veg seller Martin Fowler and clothes flogger Donna Yates who were all in the path of the bus as it spun out of control.
Kush Kazemi, Honey Mitchell and Johnny Carter were also spied diving for safety as the disaster unfolded - and after the bus came to a halt the worst was feared for Martin as well as Whitney Carter as they were found trapped under the wheels of the bus.
Viewers were left perplexed by Martin's speedy recovery from being trapped under the bus. He returned to work immediately without a scratch on him and to his stall - which had been flattened by the bus too!
Which characters died during the EastEnders Disaster Week?
Miraculously almost everybody involved in the accident survived - with all those on board being evacuated quickly.
In a true demonstration of community spirit, the residence of Walford united to lift the bus together to pull Martin free - in scenes that mirrored a real life event.
Whitney also survived despite being mowed down by the heavy vehicle.
But sadly it was the end of the road for the bus driver - whose heart attack proved to be fatal.
Who kissed Whitney Carter after she woke up following the accident and who saw her?
After surviving the accident, Whitney woke up to find her father-in-law Mick Carter at her bedside.
The two then shared a passionate embrace - a move that some viewers expressed shock and disappointment about.
Fellow crash survivor Denise Fox witnessed the kiss, however, and moments later Whitney's husband Lee entered the room - although he remained oblivious to his wife's indiscretion.
What is Max Branning plotting following the bus crash disaster?
After being framed for the murder of Lucy Beale, it looks like Max Branning (played by Strictly Come Dancing star Jake Wood) is planning to get his revenge on the entire square - and no one is safe.
Meeting with a mysterious businessman at a swanky London restaurant, Max admitted his scheme was to destroy the Square and its residents.
The businessman, described in the credits as only ‘Chairman, Weyland & Co’, told Max: “That’s where I grew up over there. Deprived, depressed. Not many people got out of there, believe me."
Chillingly, he then said: “Well that’s next on my list,” he said. “Let it burn for all I care.”
It looks like viewers will have to wait a bit longer before his plan is revealed.
