As Rhona arrived home, still drunk from her night out with the girls, Pierce heard her phone go off and decided to answer it.

Seeing a text message from a mystery number, Pierce croached to the floor and menacingly looked at Rhona as she slept, but what is he planning.

The show's viewers went into meltdown tonight as Rhona Goskirk was apparently raped by boyfriend Pierce Harris after she turned down his proposal.

Pierce got down on one knee during tonight's episode, and fans were overjoyed when Rhona turned him down, but it later took a dark turn.

Viewers were left on the edge of their seats when she dropped the ring as Rhona told him: "I'm so sorry!"

She was then seen explaining to him that it's "not a total no" before adding: "I'm not even divorced yet.

"It was beautiful. It's just too soon. Sorry."

But their happiness did not last long as the couple endured an awkward encounter with Rhona's former partner Paddy.

He asked about the proposal and Pierce had to tell him: "She said no".

The couple were then seen back at home as Pierce seemingly forced himself on his shocked partner as Rhona says no to his advances.

Rhona was later seen crying in bed as Pierce carried on as usual and went about planning a holiday for them.

Furious fans flocked to Twitter to express their shock over the rape scene.

One even called for Pierce to be jailed over the sex assault.

The angry viewer tweeted: "Hope #Emmerdale shows Pierce going to jail for raping Rhona. Horrific."
