What is Twin Peaks?
Twin Peaks is a drama series created by novelist and screenwriter Mark Frost and surrealist director David Lynch and first aired in 1991, and followed the murder investigation of homecoming queen Laura Palmer.
Set in the fictional town of Twin Peaks, Washington, it ran for two seasons and was followed by a feature film in 1992 called Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me.
It’s supernatural effects, as well as the surreal and quirky characters, not to mention its unsettling tone and scenery made it an instant cult classic.
What’s the new series about?
In true Lynch style, details of the plot remained largely unknown ahead of the season premiere.
According to Frost's new book - The Secret History Of Twin Peaks - after Dale Cooper's investigation of the murder of Palmer, the FBI gets hold of a box containing "a huge dossier".The book reveals that a female FBI agent is tasked to analyse all the documents inside, and everything related to the strange town of Twin Peaks.
Along the way she discovers secrets about the lives of the town's residents, but also investigates reports from Dale Cooper, who has since vanished.
Frost has emphasised that the new series is not a remake or a reboot but a continuation of the series set in present day and the passage of 25 years is very important.
