British music legend bidding to become Glastonbury’s oldest ever performer at 87

CROONER Engelbert Humperdinck wants to get out of his easy-listening comfort zone by becoming Glastonbury’s oldest rocker.

The Last Waltz singer, who will be 88 in May, plans to reinvent himself and reckons his next album could take him to the festival stage.

It would make him the oldest performer at Worthy Farm — beating 87-year-old Burt Bacharach’s 2015 appearance.

In an exclusive chat with The Sun, Engelbert said: “I wouldn’t mind doing Glastonbury. I’d have to have the right songs for that show. But my new project may give me that opportunity.

“It’s out of my comfort zone and taking me into a different style, which may lead to Glastonbury.”

Engelbert — who has just collaborated with singer Emin on his album Now Or Never, out today — said he hoped to work with Gorillaz.

He missed out on an opportunity to collaborate with the virtual band — pictured right — on their 2010 album Plastic Beach after his then-manager rejected an approach from Damon Albarn, 55.

Engelbert, whose hits include Release Me and A Man Without Love, said: “That was a terrible mistake. I would’ve jumped at the chance if they’d spoken to me.

“Hopefully, with this new project, I’ll be able to work with these sort of people. I want to record with them.”
