First Dates Hotel contestant Elliot Miller shatters viewers’ hearts after revealing he is just friends with date Poppy Akinola
Young couple hit it off on the show but decided to be friends once the cameras stopped rolling
FIRST Dates Hotel viewers were left hanging over the outcome of Poppy Akinola and Elliot Miller’s date on Monday night.
While the 23-year-old bank analyst hit it off with Elliot during their time together in France for the Channel 4 dating show with both saying they wanted to see each other again, the producers failed to give fans an update on what happened afterwards.
Many took to Twitter to air their frustration, with one tweeting: “Woah hold on a sec, what happened to Poppy and Elliot??” while another echoed their post with: “Leave us hanging… what happened to Poppy and Elliot”.
A third added: “Why weren’t we told what happened between Poppy and Elliot #firstdateshotel”.
It was left to Elliot to break the news on the social media account on Tuesday that while the pair got on amazingly well, they felt they were better as friends.
He wrote: “Thank you @FirstDates for an amazing opportunity! I had a best time with @PoppyAkinola & have gained such a sweet friend!”
Poppy, who suffers from Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and worried she would never find a man who can see past her wheelchair, then shared a tweet of her own.
She wrote: “Thank you for all being so lovely! Me & @elliotlmiller are still friends and had the most amazing time!”
Retweeting her, Elliot, a 21-year-old psychology graduate added: “Ditto! Pops is the sweetest girl I’ve met, couldn’t have asked for a better date. Still need to meet up with our mums” before adding a crying with laughter emoji.
Providing eager fans with even more details, Elliot posted a picture of them together on his Instagram account with a caption reading: “I would like to say thank you to everyone who tuned in and watched First Dates Hotel last night.
“I’m really feeling the love after reading all your kind messages, the end of the show left people guessing what happened after our date.
“To update you all, Poppy and I both decided to stay in contact with each other but as friends. I had the best date with Poppy and she is the sweetest girl I know!”
Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome is a collection of heritable connective tissue disorders and symptoms can include hypermobile joints and skin issues, whether it be soft, stretchy, saggy or too thin and bruises easily.
Poppy spoke openly about her condition with Elliot during their date, and fans were quick to praise her for being so honest.
After one viewer tweeted Elliot to commend him for his positive response to Poppy’s story, before revealing they also now had the confidence to go out and date again, he replied: “aww that’s made me so happy to hear! Poppy is an inspiration and there are definitely guys out there who don’t give hoot… you go girl!!!”
