Ryan Gosling’s La La Land looks set to dominate BAFTA Awards with 11 nominations as Emily Blunt and Andrew Garfield also land top nods

The nominations were announced by Sophie Turner and actor Dominic Cooper this morning

RYAN Gosling's new musical La La Land is set to be the main contender at the BAFTA Awards next month after landing a slew of top nominations.

The film scored 11 nods when the list was announced this morning by Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner and actor Dominic Cooper.

Ryan will compete in the Leading Actor category, and his co-star Emma Stone is among the front runners for BAFTA's Leading Actress prize.

The hunky actor will take on Brit Andrew Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge), Casey Affleck (Manchester By The Sea), Jake Gyllenhaal (Nocturnal Animals) and Viggo Mortensen (Captain Fantastic).

Emma will also face competition from a British rival as she takes on Emily Blunt for her role in thriller The Girl on the Train.

Amy Adams (Arrival), Meryl Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins) and Natalie Portman (Jackie) are also vying for gongs in that category.

Other contenders to watch include Arrival and Nocturnal Animals, which both landed eight nominations, and Manchester By The Sea, which scored six.

Best Film will pitch La La Land against its main rivals - Arrival, Manchester By The Sea, Arrival, I, Daniel Blake and Moonlight.

Outstanding British Film featured a nod for Eddie Redmayne's Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

It will face competition from American Honey, Denial, I, Daniel Blake, Notes on Blindness and Under The Shadow.

Another big blockbuster to score mentions was Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which landed mentions for Make Up

& Hair and Special Visual Effects.

La La Land is proving to be a major contender during the Hollywood awards season this year after previously winning big at the Golden Globes on Sunday night.

The BAFTA Awards will be handed out on 12 February in a ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
