Coronation Street’s Michelle Connor terrified for her unborn baby after her waters break in the middle of her baby shower
Michelle and husband Steve are set to lose baby Ruairi after he is born at 23 weeks
MICHELLE Connor has been left terrified in Coronation Street after her waters broke prematurely.
The barmaid - who is played by actress Kym Marsh - was rushed to hospital after feeling pains in her stomach in the middle of her baby shower, fearing the worst for her unborn baby.
"I don't know, I think something's wrong," Michelle told Leanne as they headed to the hospital.
"Something's wrong with my baby," she said, adding: "I can't lose my baby Leanne."
After Steve McDonald arrived in time for the scan, the nurse found a heartbeat and told Michelle they would keep her in the hospital for 48 hours to monitor the situation.
"Please just hang on," Michelle said as Steve went to get her a brew, but tragedy is just around the corner.
The couple will lose their baby later this week in heartbreaking circumstances and Steve is set to blame himself as wife Michelle Connor loses her baby in Coronation Street.
Michelle will be rushed to hospital as she suffers pains during her baby shower at the Rovers, and when her waters break at the hospital, she receives some devastating news when she's told the baby is too under-developed to survive.
Once Michelle has given birth and baby Ruairi is pronounced dead, a devastated Steve will try to comfort Michelle but will blame himself for the loss.
He begins irrationally fears that he is to blame for the loss and confides in mum Liz about his fears, insisting it's a punishment for his recent lies.
Kym, 40, lost baby Archie seconds after he was born prematurely at just 21 weeks in 2009.
“I thought long and hard before agreeing to take on the challenge of this storyline. It is a cause very close to my heart having lost my beautiful Archie," she said.
“I have had to go to some very dark places in my mind while filming these heartbreaking scenes, but my family, friends and colleagues have been incredible. Losing a child is something that never leaves you so to revisit those feelings has been challenging.
