Golden Globes 2017 full winners list revealed as La La Land wins big and The Night Manager dominates television
The cream of the crop of film and television came together to honour those who have done sterling work for the past year
LA LA Land dominated The Golden Globes this year as British talent reigned supreme in the television side.
The Barry Jenkins directed Moonlight scooped the best motion picture drama award, but it was La La Land that took home the gong for best musical or comedy.
Actress Emma Stone and actor Ryan Gosling won awards for their roles in the Damien Chazelle directed musical, while it also picked up awards for its screenplay, director and original score.
The musical also picked up the gong for best original song for City of Stars from the movie.
Meanwhile, Elle scooped two major awards. One was for the best foreign language film and the other for best actress for star Isabelle Huppert.
Meanwhile Casey Affleck won for his role in Manchester by the Sea, Viola Davis scooped the supporting actress gong for Fences, and the best animated film award went to Zootopia.
Brit actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson represented his country in the film category as he scooped best supporting actor for his role in Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals.
The British actor, 26, dedicated his gong to his wife, film-maker Sam Taylor-Johnson, 49, who he described as his “soul mate”.
“I want to thank my wife for being there with me and supporting me,” he said on stage.
“Thank you for putting up with me. Jesus I was not very pleasant in this role.”
Meanwhile, over in the television categories, British talent totally dominated in the awards.
Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie and Olivia Colman all won awards for their roles in The Night Manager, while Claire Foy scooped a gong for her role as Queen Elizabeth in The Crown.
Hiddleston was named best actor in a limited television series for his performance in the BBC thriller, while Laurie and Colman collected awards for their supporting roles.
On stage, Laurie appeared to take aim at President-elect Donald Trump as he joked that he was collecting the award from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association at the “last ever Golden Globes”.
“I don’t mean to be gloomy,” he said.
“It’s just it has ‘Hollywood’, ‘foreign’ and ‘press’ in the title. To some Republicans even the word ‘association’ is slightly sketchy.
“I accept this award on behalf of psychopathic billionaires everywhere.”
