Hiddleston was named Best Actor in a Limited Television Series for his performance in the BBC thriller, while Laurie and Colman collected awards for their supporting roles.

On stage, Laurie appeared to take aim at President-elect Donald Trump as he joked that he was collecting the award from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association at the "last ever Golden Globes".

"I don't mean to be gloomy," he said.

"It's just it has 'Hollywood', 'foreign' and 'press' in the title. To some Republicans even the word 'association' is slightly sketchy.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a movie for his portrayal of a psychopathic drifter in Tom Ford's Nocturnal Animals.
The British actor, 26, dedicated his gong to his wife, film-maker Sam Taylor-Johnson, 49, who he described as his "soul mate".

"I want to thank my wife for being there with me and supporting me," he said on stage.

"Thank you for putting up with me. Jesus I was not very pleasant in this role."

The ceremony got off to an eventful start after host Jimmy Fallon's autocue failed.

He sailed through the technical error like a pro however and had the audience in fits of laughter with his ad libs.

Not everyone was deemed a winner on the night however, with Carrie Underwood and Kathryn Hahn accused of missing the mark when it came to their outfit choices.

Leading ladies Emma Stone and Kristin Cavallari shone however and were praised for their stunning fashion choices.

On the night Jessica Biel appeared to lead the trend of A-listers daring to have the most plunging necklines.

Along with actress Drew Barrymore and model Emily Rata Ratajkowski, some of the biggest female names vyed for the most bold look.

The night wasn’t only just for the winners however, with lovers taking centre stage on the Golden Globes red carpet.
