The Great British Bake Off is preparing to return to our screens THIS YEAR after moving to Channel 4
THE Great British Bake Off is preparing to return this year, we can reveal.
Production for the eighth series, which will move from the BBC to Channel 4, has begun with casting sessions being held imminently.
Prospective bakers are even being asked at interview if they are free to tape a series over this Summer.
This would indicate show runners are keen to air the show this year despite a clause that could allow the BBC to block the screening of a new episodes until 2018.
A source said: “Channel 4 and Love Productions who produce the show are keen to have a package ready to go as soon as possible.
“Casting starts today with all applications for the eighth series having been sent in over the last month and as well as wanting to know about any criminal convictions or emotional family stories in the questionnaire, contenders for filming are being asked when they could film over a summer block of weekends.
“Ultimately hands are tied by contracts but there’s no doubt viewers want more Bake Off back in their lives and won’t like having to wait an extra year to get it.”
