Eamonn Holmes argues with wife Ruth Langsford and relationship therapists over what makes a marriage work

EAMONN Holmes disagreed with two relationship therapists and wife Ruth Langsford over what makes a marriage work today – and revealed that he believes that attraction is everything.

The This Morning pair have been married since 2010 and during the segment with husband and wife therapists Kate and Harry Benson who wrote, What Mums Want and What Dads Need to Know, both said they were one another’s “best friend in the world.”

However when it was revealed that women want a friend over anything else in the marriage, Eamonn was adamant that attraction was just as important.

“No that’s not it,” he said. “I want someone I fancy as well!”

And when Harry responded that sexiness came bottom of the list for women, the presenter said: “I don’t agree, I don’t agree, don’t agree.”

He added he thought that women saying that “was part of the problem.”

Ruth and the therapists reasoned that he disagreed because he was a man, and that wives wanted emotional support, Eamonn made sure his point was heard.

“Well do you know what, that’s an existence, that’s not a life. That’s an existence. That’s my view.”

He then asked the married therapists whether they fancied one another, and despite both happily responding that they certainly did, Ruth teased him for asking a “very personal” question.

And as therapist Harry revealed his motto “Happy wife, happy life”, Eamonn felt frustrated that men weren’t being fairly represented.

“I’m sorry, where I’m going to disagree with you is that some things should be done for the husband. It’s all ‘women, women, women’!”

Ruth tried to calm him down, but he declared: “They are saying it darling! There are good men out there as well!”

To which Ruth joked: "The producer's saying can you just get on with it!"

He later said: “Not all men are bad men. Not all men are heartless cold baddies in a relationship" and Ruth added: "Eamonn is the most caring man I know."
