Carrie and Debbie lived next door to each other in their later years and one clip shows Carrie heading to her mother's house with breakfast, calling out: "Mommy, mommy, I'm home!"

At one point the pair are looking through Debbie's wardrobe and the Singing in the Rain star comments how she'd forgotten she'd had one dress.

And Carrie is quick to joke: "That's what's good about losing your memory - there's so many surprises."

The documentary also includes home videos showing them as a young family.

Viewers are advised to have tissues at hand as the extent of the two's relationship is revealed.
