STONE Roses frontman John Squire, 61, might cause his fans to do a double take ahead of the release of his new single with Liam Gallagher, 51, on Friday.

The indie singer and songwriter looks almost unrecognisable from his 90s heyday, as the star of one of Britain’s biggest bands.

But those disappointed by his altered appearance are no doubt excited by the collaboration of two of Manchester’s most legendary musicians.

The former Oasis frontman, Liam Gallagher has joined forces with the former Stones guitarist to record an album.

Indeed the pair have been teasing fans with clips of their music for some time, but now the single- Just another Rainbow will finally go on release at the weekend.

The musicians previously shared some footage from the video for their single, with Gallagher singing, ‘Just another rainbow and Squires playing a psychedelia themed guitar accompaniment, wearing their signature 90 parka jackets.

Speaking about their union, Gallagher, described Squire as a “top songwriter.”

He said: “Everyone always bangs on about him as a guitarist, but he’s a top songwriter too, man, no two ways about it as far as I’m concerned,” he said.

“There’s not enough of his music out there, whether it’s with the Roses or himself. It’s good to see him back writing songs and fucking good ones.

Indeed for Liam, the partnership must feel like a full circle moment, having been ‘obsessed’ with The Stone Roses in his youth.

He said: “The first record Iever bought was The Stone Roses debut album. I know this is all sounding very cool and people won’t believe me, but it is – I’m just cool.

“Gallagher also went on to explain that when he first saw the Stone Roses in concert aged 16, they: ‘blew his mind.”

The duo later met four years later at the height of Oasis’s fame when the bands were both recording in Monmouthshire and they have remained friends ever since.
