Elton John breaks down on stage during emotional tribute to George Michael in Vegas after rumours he is ‘set to perform Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me at funeral’
ELTON John reportedly broke down on stage in Las Vegas while paying tribute to George Michael on Wednesday.
The 69-year-old was said to have appeared to be in tears as he sang their 1991 collaboration Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me.
Elton paid an emotional tribute to George, 53, while sat at his piano before starting the song.
He told the audience: “I only wish George was here to sing it with me.”
The reports that the singer was left “physically shaking” after the tribute.
A source in the crowd told the publication: “After he sang for George, he turned his back on the audience and was shaking and looked like he was crying. I was in tears and so was everyone around me.
“He received a standing ovation and had to be consoled by a band member before beginning the rest of the show. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.”
The iconic singer died on Christmas day of a suspected heart failure.
Following the death, Elton said: "I have lost a beloved friend - the kindest, most generous soul and a brilliant artist."
Elton, who famously performed Candle In The Wind at Princess Diana’s funeral in Westminster Abbey in 1997, is also to be planning on performing their track at George's funeral, according to another report in The Metro.

The Sun Online reported yesterday that some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Elton, could also be set to remember their beloved friend in a tribute to end all tributes.
Big names who have previously worked alongside the iconic star are said to be in the very early stages of talks and considering an ultimate send-off for George, 53, who died of heart failure on Christmas Day - with claims it could be in the shape of a "memorial concert".
Everyone from Elton and Bob Geldof, to Wham! star Andrew Ridgeley, soul queen Aretha Franklin and pals Mariah Carey, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, and Cindy Crawford - the latter two models who starred in his Freedom 90 video - are just a few of the names said to be in the early stages of considering a tribute.
A source said: "It's early stages yet but George's pals are determined to deliver a send-off to remember for him.
"It's likely to be in the form of a memorial concert and to raise money for the causes close to George's heart.
"George was a dear friend to so many people, and there is no way that they will let him go without a send-off fit for a music legend."
