Carrie Fisher’s top 5 screen roles apart from Princess Leia in Star Wars
SHE may have been best known for her role as Princess Leia in Star Wars.
But the late Carrie Fisher’s incredible acting career spanned over 50 years and included many defining roles and hidden gems away from The Force.
Below we remember some of Carrie’s most memorable performances away from the space opera franchise.
The actress passed away on Tuesday after suffering a heart attack on December 23.
Family spokesperson Simon Halls said: “It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning.”
The Blues Brothers (1980)
Despite this being one of her smallest of roles, Carrie’s presence is felt throughout the comedy which follows brothers Jake and Elwood as they try to put a concert on because they received a message from God.
Her role is mysterious, deadly and quite frankly ridiculous.
Although she doesn’t even have a name in the flick, her character shows up every few scenes with a gun as she tries to take out the brothers.
The ‘Burbs (1989)
In this flick, Carrie stars alongside Tom Hanks’ character Ray who is caught up in a conspiracy that involves neighbours who may or may not be Satanists.
Although she takes a back seat, her constant composure added to the hilarity of the thriller.
When Harry Met Sally (1989)
Carrie questionably stole the show in the 1989 flick as Meg Ryan’s character’s best friend Marie.
As Harry and Sally spend 12 years trying to figure out that they’re meant to be together – Marie plays the dead pan, confident, plucky side-kick typical in romcoms.
30 Rocks (2007)
She may have only starred in one episode of the long-running American sitcom, but her role as Rosemary Howard was certainly a memorable one.
Critics described Fisher as ‘self-deprecating and self-aware’ in her portrayal alongside Tina Fey – with the episode culminating with a Star Wars reference.
Catastrophe (2016)
In one of her most recent roles, Carrie starred in Amazon comedy Catastrophe earlier this year.
Although, like many of her roles, it wasn’t a leading one, Carrie certainly stood out once again.
With her crass, sarcastic and honest portrayal of Mia, it was hard not to see just a little of the lovable actress in the character they’d created.
