The Great British Bake Off bids farewell to the BBC with an emotional sign-off
The show played a one-minute-long clip showing the best of its tent action over the last seven years
GREAT British Bake Off fans were left in tears last night as the show said its final farewell to the BBC with a goodbye montage.
The last ever episode of the hugely-popular baking show aired on Boxing Day night, the second half of the Christmas special.
Having already been warned to stick around and wait until the end credits has rolled, fans stayed glued to their screens to see what would happen - and they weren't expecting to be reduced to tears.
Then, a shot of the famous tent flashed up as Dean Martin’s Memories Are Made of This began to play.
The minute-long clip then showed some of the best bits from the show – including a couple of innuendos.
Then the camera scrolled down a table with four cakes on, on top of which were the words THANK YOU AND GOODBYE, along with clips of contestants crying.
In front of the cakes were pictures of judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood and presenters Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc.
It then cut to a clip of a choked up Mary saying, “Sheer perfection. And I enjoyed every minute,” before she swallows the lump in her throat and walks away.
Of course, it was the moment after she had crowned Nadiya Hussain the winner of the GBBO 2015, but it was more than appropriate given the circumstances.

And it left viewers in bits as they took to Twitter to share their loss.
One wrote, “That 'thank you and goodbye' message got me way too emotional,” while another added: “Such happiness during a dark year. Made me cry when Mary said goodbye.”
Another added: "Hands up who cried at the Bake Off outro? #GBBO #gbboxmas #sniff."
One fan said, “WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO AN EMOTIONALLY UNSTABLE NATION?” as another added: “I will miss this brilliant show so very much - sending love to everyone involved.”
The show's official Twitter page then shared a photo of Hollywood, Berry, Perkins and Giedroyc and wrote: "It's time to raise a glass to the gang of four. Through the tears over tiers and fun over bun, it's been a huge pleasure."
