Paul O’Grady’s For The Love Of Dogs airs most EMOTIONAL goodbye EVER when recently homeless man is forced to give up his dog Butch
Paul O’Grady’s show had viewers in tears when Eric came to give up his dog Butch
FOR The Love Of Dogs aired one of it's most emotional goodbyes on Christmas Day – showing a man having to give up his dog after he was made homeless.
Eric came to Battersea Cats and Dogs home with Butch, an elderly Border Collie and revealed the tragic reason he was forced to give up his beloved canine.
Explaining he'd been given Butch when his father passed away in March last year, Eric emotionally revealed he'd been made homeless.
He explained: “I’ve fallen on hard times recently, [Butch] can’t live in a tent, it’s not fair.”
Lying on the floor with the adorable pooch, Eric struggled to hold back his tears as he cuddled him for one last time.
Then, as Butch was led away, Eric broke down and started to cry.
While viewers praised his actions, telling Eric he’d done the right thing, many struggled to hold back their own tears as man and dog were parted.
The episode became even more emotional when staff at rehoming centre in London explained Butch was struggling to settle in.
They explained he was “traumatised” by being parted from Eric and hadn’t stopped shaking since he’d come to Battersea.
A few days later however, Butch started to calm down and staff started to slowly bring him back to health – sorting his arthritis and giving him the snip.
And at the end of the episode, viewers watched as Butch finally got his happy ending – being rehomed and taken back to a loving family.
Viewers were left thinking of Eric however, with many hoping he too had somewhere safe and warm to stay this Christmas.
