Gareth is presently working on a cruise ship in the Caribbean, but he recently had an awful encounter.

In a poignant clip, the star shared how he faced verbal abuse from fellow passengers during a cruise due to his speech impediment.

Gareth began in the video: "I wanted to share something that happened to me yesterday purely to try and raise awareness...

"Three days ago myself and my partner were leaving our cabin on our ship and our next door neighbour saw that it was me and ever since then, every time we've been out on our balcony and they've obviously heard that we've been there, it's just been constant verbal abuse."

He said three women started off by singing the song, 'Changes' by David Bowie.

Gareth continued: "It's progressed onto Gareth Gates and just got worse and worse , you know and I'm more than used to this I can handle this, at first I was like 'let's just leave it, leave it' but three days is just relentless...

"There were three girls in that cabin, same age as my mum actually, and if it had been men, I would've gone round and asked, you know 'is there an issue?'."

Gareth told his followers how his partner approached the women and asked them to stop being nasty.

The singer shared: "But I could hardly head round there myself, as it's three women and so my other half after a while said, 'look I've had enough of this', and so she went round and politely asked them to stop, and it actually worked."

Gareth's heartfelt mission was to raise awareness about bullying and inspire victims with the powerful message that standing up to bullying can put an end to it.

He said: "And I think that's the reason why I decided to do this video because if we stand up to bullying it can stop, hey we all like a joke, I take the p**s out of myself you know."

He added: "And amongst my close friends and family, you know I'm the first to take the mick out of myself and my speech but knowing that the person you are taking the mick out of can hear, takes a completely different person."

Gareth concludeD: "So if you are those three women in cabin 8 2 0 6 on my ship then shame on you we've heard your conversations you obviously have kids and grandkids so what kind of example are you setting for them?"

He captioned the post: "STAND UP TO BULLYING."

Many of his followers all rushed to send their support to the former X Factor star in the comments.

One wrote: "Despicable behaviour by your neighbours. Their actions show how ignorant they are. Your actions show how resilient and gentlemanly you are. They should be completely ashamed of themselves. Gareth you are a lovely human being both inside and out xox."

A second added: "Absolutely disgusting. And grown women as well. P&O should have forced them off wherever you were and made them find their own way home."

A third commented: "What is wrong with people! Despicable, I hope you managed to enjoy your cruise despite this."

A fourth wrote: "That is absolutely disgusting - well done to your other half for helping you."

A fifth penned: "Vile women!!!"
