Who is Ramona Marquez? Star of Outnumbered and The King’s Speech – here’s what we know
The curly-haired actress is now all grow-up having won the nation’s hearts on the comedy series
SHE started on the show as the adorable curly-haired cutie who won the nation’s hearts with her improvised one-liners.
But Ramona Sanchez is no longer the baby of the Outnumbered family and is now all grown-up and back with her on-screen family for a Christmas special.
So who is Ramona Sanchez? Here’s what we know.
Where is Ramona Sanchez from?
She was born in London on February 24 2001 to actor father Martin Marquez – best known for his role as head barman in BBC drama comedy Hotel Babylon.
She has a younger brother called Raoul and her uncle John Marquez is also an actor, and is best known for playing PC Joe Penhale in ITV series Doc Martin.
Ramona was educated at Graveney School in Tooting, south west London.
What is Ramona famous for?
When she was six years old she landed the role of Karen Brockman in the BBC comedy series Outnumbered.
Parts of the show are improvised and while the adult actors learn the scripts, the child stars are given last-minute instructions by the writers on the day of filming.
In 2009, Ramona became the first child to win the British Comedy Award for Best Female Comedy Newcomer.
She starred as the quizzical and chatty Karen from 2007 to 2014 and is returning for a Christmas special this year.
What else has she appeared in?
In 2009, she starred as Imogen Pollock in the made-for-TV movie Enid which detailed the life of children’s author Enid Blyton and starred Helena Bonham Carter in the lead role.
The following year she starred as Princess Margaret in The King’s Speech alongside Colin Firth and Bonham Carter again.
In 2011, she provided the voice of Gwen in Arthur Christmas for which she was nominated for a Young Artist Award, and played a grandchild of one of the lead stars in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
Why was Ramona the target of internet trolls in 2016?
The actress attended the Reading Festival in August 2016 but soon found herself the target of online trolls who accused her of being on drugs at the music event.
Some revellers snapped photos of her and claimed she was “off her nut” on some substance as she partied with friends.
But she defended herself by taking to social media to hit back at her critics, questioning why they would be so nasty and denying she had taken drugs.
