Kara Tointon hints at EastEnders return seven years after exit
The actress hasn't ruled out the possibility of reprising her role as Dawn Swann
KARA Tointon has hinted at returning to EastEnders.
The 33-year-old, who quit the BBC soap in 2009, discussed the possibility of stepping foot back in Albert Square during an interview with Lorraine.
When asked by the daytime TV host, Kara responded: “[Well], I never got killed off!
“I’d never say never to anything. I’m lucky I’ve got to the point where I can do a bit of theatre and film and different things.”
Kara joined the soap in 2005 as feisty Dawn Swann and starred on the show for four years alongside on-screen brother Micky played by Joe Swash.
Despite quitting the show to focus on different roles, the actress has since admitted she initially struggled to find work.
She told the : “There was a point after EastEnders that I strongly considered giving up on acting and resorting to my plan B, training to be an interior designer. At that point, I started to think it wasn't going to happen for me.
"After you've been in a soap, people can assume you can't do anything else, because you're associated with your TV character.
"It can be demoralising, going to audition after audition and getting rejected, and you have to be pretty strong to carry on in this business."
However, her career has gone from strength to strength since.
Most noticeably she has starred in Mr Selfridge and The Sound Of Music Live.
She is also set to take centre stage in upcoming racy wartime drama The Halcyon which premieres on ITV, January 2.
Discussing the show, she told : “It’s like Downtown Abbey on acid!”
