BOSSES at Madame Tussauds in Blackpool have had to pay “special attention” to the wax work of Coronation Street star Bet Lynch after she was named the most popular celebrity at the attraction.
On hearing the news, actress Julie Goodyear, 74, said: “Thank you so much for naming Bet Lynch the most popular Madame Tussaud’s celebrity wax work in Blackpool.
“It makes me very happy to see that Bet is being kissed under the mistletoe for Christmas.”
Fans have been lining up to kiss the barmaid under the mistletoe at the Rovers Return leaving celebs like Cheryl and Lady Gaga gathering dust.
Bet’s figure has demanded a lot of attention from the studio team– making her the most retouched figure on display at the attraction.
A source told The Sun: “Bet is by far the most popular wax work in all of the attraction and visitors line up to kiss her.
“The team have had to give her special attention and touch her up lots so that she doesn’t get damaged.
“It’s a shame because Cheryl and Lady Gaga have been side lined while visitors dash to see Bet.”
The character of Bet first appeared in the soap in 1966 and went on to become a series regular for 25 years starring in the soap from 1970 to 1995.
Bet was the feisty barmaid landlady at the Rovers Return.
She made a brief return to the cobbles in 2002 and 2003
In the Madame Tussauds, Blackpool, soaps can get up close and personal with feisty Bet at the Rovers Return’s Christmas On The Cobbles pop up.
After leaving the soap, Bet, played by actress Julie Goodyear, went on to take part in several reality shows including Celebrity Fit Club, Celebrity Stars in Their Eyes and more recently Celebrity Big Brother in 2012.
She confirmed in an interview that she will “never” return to Coronation Street due to her being a “perfectionist” and the schedules are too “gruelling”.
