Huge 90s bands unite for first UK tour together – decades on from hits songs and global success

TWO huge 90s bands have announced they are uniting for their first UK tour together.

Both of these rock supergroups had massive hits in the 90s, and achieved worldwide success.

The Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer have just announced a UK and Ireland co-headline tour.

The two legendary bands will be hitting the road together in summer 2024, kicking things off at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena, and wrapping up their tour at Cardiff Castle.

The Smashing Pumpkins first emerged out of Chicago in 1988.

Since then, they’ve sold over 30 million albums worldwide and collected two Grammy Awards, two MTV VMAs, and an American Music Award.

They are best known for their 90s albums Mellon Collie, and the Infinite Sadness.

Meanwhile, Weezer’s music has been streamed billions of times with the band selling over 10 million albums in the US and over 35 million records worldwide since their debut album’s release in 1994.

Their catalogue of hits includes Buddy Holly, Undone (The Sweater Song), Say It Ain’t So, and Pork and Beans.

Speaking about the tour, Weezer tweeted:“Today is the greatest day we’ve ever known.

“UK and Ireland we’re coming back around to co-headline a handful of shows next summer with Smashing Pumpkins.”

While the Pumpkins added: "SP is excited to announce we will be touring UK & Ireland next year with Weezer."

The full tour dates are:

  • June 7 - Birmingham Utilita Arena
  • June 8 - London The O2
  • June 10 - Dublin 3Arena
  • June 12 - Glasgow OVO Hydro
  • June 13 - Manchester Co-op Live
  • June 14 - Cardiff Castle
