Who is Kim Cattrall?

Kim Cattral, 61, was born 21 August 1956 in Mossley Hill, Liverpool and is an English-Canadian actress.

When she was three months old, her family migrated to Canada, settling in the city of Courtenay on Vancouver Island in British Columbia.

At 11 she returned to England when her grandmother became ill. She took a number of acting examinations with the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) before returning to

Canada at age 16 to finish high school.

She left Canada for New York and there she attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and upon her graduation signed a five-year film deal with director Otto Preminger.

She made her film debut in Preminger's Rosebud in 1975.

A year later Universal Studios bought out that contract.

How did Kim rise to fame?

In 1982 Cattrall played P.E. teacher Miss Honeywell in Porky's.

Two years later she starred in the original Police Academy.

In 1985 she starred in three films: Turk 182, City Limits and Hold-Up, the last with French star Jean-Paul Belmondo. In 1986, she played Kurt Russell's brainy flame in the action film Big Trouble in Little China.

But in 1987 her lead role in Mannequin proved to be her big break and launched her to fame.

Who did she play in Sex and The City?

After her success in the 80s, her next big break came when she was cast as one of the leading characters in Sex and the City.

Her role as the highly-sexed Samantha Jones made her a worldwide household name.

Samantha is one of four single friends in the series and a proud, confident, highly sexual woman.

Most of Kim’s storylines revolved around frequent sex and brief affairs.

She played the character as outspoken and a self-proclaimed "try-sexual" (meaning she'll try anything at least once).

Kim has amassed a fortune since her rise to fame.

She has whopping £56million.

This is largely down to playing Samantha in Sex and the City.

Is Kim married?

Kim has been married three times.

Her 1977 to 1979 marriage to Larry Davis was annulled.

Her second marriage was from 1982 to 1989 to Andre J. Lyson, with whom she lived in Frankfurt and learned to speak German fluently, but admits she has forgotten a lot over the years.

From 1998 to 2004 she was married to audio designer and jazz bassist, Mark Levinson. The two co-wrote the 2002 book Satisfaction: The Art of the Female Orgasm.

Kim is currently single.

What has Kim said about her brother?

Kim announced the death of her brother Chris on February 4, 2018, hours after she asked her social media followers for help to find him.

The Sex And The City actress shared the heartbreaking news on Twitter that her younger brother had "unexpectedly passed away".

She wrote: "It is with great sadness that myself and my family announce the unexpected passing of our son and brother, Chris Cattrall.

"At this time we ask for privacy. We want to thank you all on social media for your outpouring of love and support in this trying time."

Following her brother's death, Kim hit out at former Sex and the City co-star Sarah Jessica Parker, accusing her of ";exploiting" the tragedy.

She branded the 52-year-old actress a "hypocrite" and "cruel", posting on Instagram:  "I don’t need your love or support at this tragic time @sarahjessicaparker".

In a lengthy caption, she added: "Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now."
