Fifth Harmony star Camila Cabello quits the band after four and a half years – but fails to tell her bandmates
FIFTH Harmony star Camila Cabello has quit the group after forming on X Factor USA four and a half years ago.
The group released a statement on Monday morning revealing the 19-year-old failed to inform her bandmates of her decision – and left it to her representatives to break the news.
Their announcement came just hours after the five of them took to the stage at iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball in Florida.
The statement said: “After 4 and a half years of being together, we have been informed via her representatives that Camila has decided to leave Fifth Harmony. We wish her well.
“You Harmonizers have been there with us since the beginning, you’ve supported us, you’ve rejoiced and cried with us, you’ve grown with us, and with your love and support, we will continue on.
“That being said, we are excited to announce that we will be moving forward with the four of us – Ally Brooke, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane and Lauren Jauregui for our fans.”
The post continued: “We are four strong, committed women who will continue with Fifth Harmony as well as our solo endeavours.
“We are excited for our future, and we can’t wait for what the new year brings.
“Harmonizers, we are in this together. We love you with all our hearts.”
Camila appeared to be testing the waters earlier this year with her debut solo offering.
The singer released hit track Bad Things with American hip hop artist Machine Gun Kelly in October.
In the two months since its release the track has sold 136,000 copies in America.
Fifth Harmony faced even more controversy recently after singer Lauren was charged with possession of marijuana after being detailed in an airport.
The 20-year-old had “marijuana in her hand luggage” as she was preparing to travel from America to Brazil, according to a report from .
A police insider told the website: “Lauren was stopped at a TSA checkpoint and forced to submit to a secondary search, when a TSA staffer found what appeared to be a bag of marijuana in her carry-on luggage.
“Cops were flagged down in the terminal and they promptly arrested the singer.”
A spokesman for the airport confirmed Jauregui had been charged with possession and released on summons.
Lauren was flying out of Dulles airport in Virginia and heading to Brazil, where the band were performing at the VEVO FunPopFun Festival.
She was unable to join the group for the gig in Sao Paulo, but the show went on without her.
The band performed at the festival as a four-piece, but the pop star’s attorney has confirmed the incident at the airport “will not interfere with any future scheduled performances or activities.”
