New Star Wars film Rogue One has fourth biggest opening weekend of all time
It was beaten only by The Force Awakens, Avatar and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
STAR Wars spin-off Rogue One has earned the fourth biggest December opening weekend of all time.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, starring Felicity Jones, 33, took £108.4m worldwide, ranking behind last year’s galactic offering The Force Awakens, Avatar and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
Last night the sci-fi flick was on track to take a total of £124.6m over the weekend thanks to a huge opening of £56.8m on Friday.
The film, which held its London premiere last Tuesday, was previously predicted to finish the weekend between £112m and £120m so it’s already exceeded expectations.
Ticket sales dropped just 35 per cent on Saturday – beating Force Awakens 43 per cent drop over the same time frame.
