In the first official video Christmas on the cobbles, Toyah's return is laid bare as she thunders up the cobbles in her car, jumps out and tells sister Leanne that she's 'messed it all up'.

But Leanne's troubles are only beginning as also in the trailer her ex and her current boyfriend get into a serious punch-up on the cobbles.

Peter Barlow - who has a new love interest in the soap - is seen punching Nick Tilsley to the floor in front of the entire street before getting up and charging at his love rival.

Sadly Nick's Christmas is set to get even worse as his niece Bethany Platt is shown stumbling into the alleyway drunk before collapsing.

Fortunately Toyah's long-awaited return awaited is happening and she's sticking around.

The Weatherfield favourite - who is played by actress Georgia Taylor - hasn't been seen in Weatherfield since 2003 but fans have long wanted her to make a return and now their wish has been granted.

In a spoiler picture revealed by The Sun, Toyah returns to be reunited with her step-sister Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) for a nice brew.

Toyah, played by Georgia Taylor, left the Street in 2003 after starting an affair with her university tutor only for him to cheat on her with Maria Connor.

Pregnant Leanne is delighted to see her sister, who arrives in tears with her nursing a broken heart and hiding a big secret but she won’t be the only problem on Leanne’s overfilled plate.

Not only is she struggling to keep schtum about Steve McDonald being the real father of her unborn baby, but fiancé Nick’s brain injury is making him increasingly volatile.

As Nick’s paranoia about former love rival Peter Barlow spirals out of control the pair start brawling – in scenes reminiscent of the legendary fights between Peter’s dad Ken and his arch-nemesis Mike Baldwin.

And as usual, young Simon Barlow sees something he shouldn’t but with Toyah back, the sisters will be able to take on anything.

Speaking ahead of her return, Georgia said: "I am thrilled to be rejoining my old friends on the cobbles. Coronation Street has always had a place in my heart and I'm delighted to be working again with my good friend Jane Danson and bringing the Battersby sisters back together.

"The scriptwriters and producers have come up with some fantastic, clever and detailed storylines that have inspired me and I feel excited to get started."

Toyah's return will air during the soap's Christmas episodes.

* Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV
