Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman are SWAPPING jobs on Pointless to mark quiz show’s 1000th episode
The telly duo have revealed what's in-store in the New Year
THERE is some exciting news today for fans of quiz show Pointless.
It’s been revealed that hosts Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman will swap roles on the hit BBC show in the New Year.
The show sees contestants try to score as few points as possible by plumbing the depths of their general knowledge to come up with the answers no-one else can think of
To celebrate the 1,000th episode of the quiz show, main host Alexander will be stepping out from behind the podium for the first time ever and switching with his "Pointless friend" behind the desk.
Speaking about the one-off change, Richard told : "I'm so delighted that the ridiculous rise and rise of Pointless continues and have loved spending 1,000 episodes alongside my TV husband Xander.
"Swapping roles was a real treat but let's just say I'm not in a hurry to do it again – Xander's job is much harder than it looks."
Alexander added: "I can't tell you how exciting this is for Richard and me. I imagine it's probably fairly obvious how much we love making Pointless – but to pass the 1,000th episode mark is a great tribute to a show that so many people work so hard on."
To mark the occasion, previous contestants will return to the studio, including the winners of the first ever Pointless jackpot in 2009, while a bigger charity jackpot (£2,500) will be up for grabs.

With the game show about to reach its big milestone, Alexander said that Richard didn't think it would even get past 60 episodes, let alone a thousand: "Richard is a much more sensible and balanced person – I used to ask him in the intervals, 'Richard, what's the prognosis here?'. He'd say,
'We'll get to do another 30, then they'll take another long, hard look at it.
"'To be honest, I don't think we'll get to do more than 60, that's probably when our journey comes to an end. In the time since Pointless has been made in 2009, around 30-50 new shows have been tried and tested and gently been taken out and released back into the wild.'
"He said it's a one in 50 chance that it'll get commissioned again, so what are the chances that it's the one show I'm in?"
