Inside the most bitter celebrity splits of all time as Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner row over ‘kidnapping’ children
RELATIONSHIPS are hard at the best of times, let alone having your private life in the public eye.
The latest couple to check into Heartbreak Hotel is Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner - who have filed for divorce after four years of marriage.
They described their split as "amicable", but on Thursday Sophie sued Joe for the "wrongful detention" of their children in New York.
Sophie accused the singer of withholding their passports and refusing to let them travel to her home UK - where she has returned following the split.
The singer furiously hit back at his ex's allegations, saying he was seeking "shared parenting" and that "the children were not abducted".
The actress filed the lawsuit in a Manhattan court on September 21, according to the documents obtained by the U.S. Sun.

According to the agreed plan: "When the Mother finished filming on September 14, 2023, she would travel to New York to collect the children and return home to England.
"The parties’ plan was for the Mother to spend a week with the family in New York, and then to return home to England with the children on September 20, 2023, where the Mother has a short work commitment on September 28, 2023.
The documents continued: "The Mother has requested the return of the children to England.
"She has submitted her Application for Return with the Central Authority for England & Wales.

"The Mother has never consented or acquiesced to the removal of the children from England."
The legal documents closed with: "The Mother has promptly, and to the best of her ability, taken all legal steps available to her to seek the return of the children to England."
Joe swiftly hit back branding the lawsuit a "harsh legal position" and said it goes against their "amicable co-parenting setup".
They have two daughters - Willa, who was born in 2020 and another little girl who was born last year but whose name was not released.
The Game of Thrones actress has been seeking support from her bestie Taylor Swift - who dated Joe briefly in 2008.
Which leads us on to taking a deep dive into the most explosive celebrity break ups - starting with our very own Tay Tay.
Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris
It was a match made in heaven - pop princess meets superstar DJ.
However, after just 15 months of dating, the pair split in June 2016 which was very much in the public eye.
Many people believe that Tom Hiddleston and his infamous "I heart T.S" vest top had a lot to answer for in the split.
The pair were spotted together not long after Taylor and Calvin's break up - which raised several eyebrows.
It then got nasty after the pair argued over who penned Harris' hit This Is What You Came For, which was performed by Rihanna.
Taylor revealed that she wrote it under the pseudonym Nils Sjoberg.
“I wrote the music, produced the song, arranged it and cut the vocals though. And initially she wanted it kept secret, hence the pseudonym,” Calvin tweeted.
“Hurtful to me at this point that her and her team would go so far out of their way to try and make ME look bad at this stage though.”
Although he did add: "“And she sings on a little bit of it too…Amazing lyric writer and she smashed it as usual.”
Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries
While Kim and Kanye West's divorce was anything but a quiet affair, it was her divorce with Kris Humphries that really got mouths moving.
Their huge wedding was featured on Keeping Up With The Kardashians but just 72 days later they called it quits.
Kim cited "irreconcilable differences" for the reason behind the split.
"I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever but sometimes things don't work out as planned," she said at the time.
Kim was accused of marrying the basketball player for publicity, and soon after their split, she hooked up with Kanye.
Se fell pregnant with North before her divorce with Kris was finalised - blimey.
Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston
This has to be one of the biggest splits of all time.
They were THE Hollywood couple before Brad took his role on Mr and Mrs Smith - where he met Angelina Jolie.
He split from Jen in 2005 and went on to marry Angelina and have six children with her.
However, this marriage broke down after Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, citing irreconcilable differences.
Brad has an estimated £200m fortune, while Ange is worth £130m.
Ange filed for divorce in September 2016, and rumours soon started swirling that Brad's affairs, drug and alcohol abuse, parties with hookers, and different parental views were to blame.
Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears
Butter wouldn't melt when it came to the early days of this sugary sweet couple.
They met on the set of The Mickey Mouse Club when they were just 11 years old.
They started dating seven years later when Justin was touring with his band NSYNC, and Britney was the opening act.
They broke up a year later in 2002, and while neither commented on the reason for the split, there were rumours that Britney cheated on Justin with her choreographer, Wade Robson.
Speaking about the breakup with The Telegraph soon after, Justin said: "The break-up was absolutely heartbreaking for me. I can't just have meaningless relationships with women.
"I have to find miss right in order to have a relationship. There's got to be that big moment when she comes along."
Justin got creative with his breakup and released his Cry Me A River music video, which featured a woman who looked a LOT like Brit.
However, Justin landed himself in hot water after he featured in the heartbreaking 2021 documentary Framing Britney Spears.
Fans accused him of making Britney out to be evil, while boosting his profile in the meantime.
After addressing the messages and comments that he'd received in the wake of the programme, he said: "I specifically want to apologise to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually, because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed.
"I also feel compelled to respond, in part, because everyone involved deserves better and most importantly, because this is a larger conversation that I wholeheartedly want to be part of and grow from."
Stephanie Davis and Jeremy McConnell
The couple met in the Celebrity Big Brother house in 2015 and their relationship was very rocky indeed.
Their relationship ended pretty quickly after leaving the house after Jeremy was unfaithful to the actress.
The pair hurled insults at each other on social media.
Despite Stephanie having his baby, the couple have little contact.
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West
Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from Kanye West on February 19, 2021, after six years of marriage.
The fashion mogul cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for their split.
On a June 3, 2021, episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kim revealed why she and her ex-husband called it quits.
Khloe said in a confessional: “Kim is dealing with so much right now. And it’s tough because right before we got here, Kim and Kanye got into this huge fight.”
A clip is then played of Kim sobbing on the bed next to her sister, Kylie Jenner, as she said: “I can’t do this anymore. I can’t.
"How am I still in this place where I’m stuck for years? Like he goes and moves to a different state every year."
The mother of four continued: "And I have to be in a place where I’m together for the kids."
"And he’s an amazing dad. And he’s done an amazing job."
The split soon turned sour, with Kanye slating Kim and the family on social media - accusing her of stopping him from seeing his kids, all of which Kim denied.
Mel B and Stephen Belafonte
Mel B announced her plan to divorce Stephan Belafonte in March 2017 – to the shock of fans – claiming he’d got their German nanny Lorraine Gilles pregnant, and paid her extra money for her services, before she had an abortion.
But the married pair had actively gushed for one another on social media just weeks before – with Mel branding Stephen “my everything, my life, my world.”
However the pair split in December 2016 with Mel citing “irreconcilable differences” for the divorce – while it was reported she also asked for joint legal and physical custody of their daughter Madison.
Mel's nightmare didn't stop there, with Mel B reportedly being granted a restraining order from her estranged husband over claims he beat and sexually exploited her.
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard
Johnny Depp, 53, and Amber Heard, 30, were at war for nearly eight months before finally finalising their divorce in January 2017.
In a court hearing in Los Angeles, a judge reportedly declined Amber's request to delay the divorce - as she fought for a bigger settlement than the £5.7 million already agreed.
Johnny's lawyer accused the actress of trying to "extend her 15 minutes of fame". Amber had previously demanded £23m from her the Pirates of the Caribbean actor.
Johnny and Amber met in 2012, and married in February 2015.
Amber filed for divorce from Johnny in May after a ferocious bust-up with the actor at their home in California.
