WHAT can't you miss on TV tonight? Our guide to the must-see shows...
NEW! The Witness for the Prosecution, 9pm, BBC1
After the success of last year’s And Then There Were None, the BBC is committed to delivering an Agatha Christie-inspired Christmas gift for viewers for years to come.
Briefly lighting up this gloomy adaptation is Kim Cattrall (left) as vampish aristocrat Emily French in 1920s London.
After she’s bumped off by her working-class toy boy, Leonard, Emily’s housekeeper (Monica Dolan) is gunning for him, while lawyer Mayhew (Toby Jones) believes he’s innocent and Leonard’s girlfriend isn’t sure – but everyone has an agenda. Don’t miss tomorrow night’s conclusion.
NEW! Revolting Rhymes, 6.30pm, BBC1
It’s technically a day late, but this fabulous two-part animation interweaving five of Roald Dahl’s wicked re-tellings of classic children’s fables – Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs, Snow White, Jack & The Beanstalk and Cinderella – is the treat of Christmas.
Narrated by the big bad wolf (Dominic West) this is hilarious brilliance. Continues tomorrow.
NEW! Outnumbered, 10pm, BBC1
If you ever suspected Outnumbered producers had placed a hidden camera in your home and based a sitcom around the footage, you wouldn’t be alone.
The family saga returns after three years for a festive special with the Brockmans on a mission to carry out sadly-departed Grandad’s last request. What could possibly go wrong?
NEW! Still Open All Hours 8.30pm BBC1
Cosy, old-fashioned laughs are the order of the day as we head back to Arkwright’s for the festive season.
Granville (David Jason, centre) and Gastric (Tim Healy) find themselves trying to convince Mrs Bridges to take her philandering hubby back in time for Christmas, which leads to slapstick sight gags and innuendos about damp patches.
NEW! The Entire Universe, 9.30pm, BBC2
A big bang of science and musical comedy, this is a daft hour of telly from Brian Cox (right) and Eric Idle.
The Professor tries to maintain order and educate the nation while the Python wrangles a parade of celebs – watch out for Warwick Davis (centre) as a Bee Gee and Noel Fielding (left) as Einstein – to wreak carnage around him. Great fun.
NEW! West Side Stories: The Making Of A Classic, 5.20pm, BBC2
Strictly judge Bruno (above, with fellow presenter Suzy Klein) travels to New York to uncover the backstory of the 1950s musical West Side Story, which inspired his dance career.
He meets original cast members and is bowled over by rare footage of some of the most spectacular dance routines ever produced. A must-see.
NEW! Lego’s Big Christmas, 8pm, Channel 4
For most kids, Christmas isn’t complete without the latest LEGO kit, and London’s Leicester Square is bracing itself to meet the demand by opening the world’s biggest LEGO shop.
This fun documentary goes behind the scenes and gets to know Britain’s only certified LEGO professional (cool title, no?) as he tries to replicate Tower Bridge with nearly six million bricks.
