SUE Perkins shed a tear as she recorded the voiceover for her last ever Great British Bake Off today.

The presenter – who appears alongside her best pal Mel Giedroyc on the show – made the decision to quit after the baking programme was bought by Channel 4.

Taking to Twitter today, she wrote: “Not ashamed to admit I just shed a tear at my final ever Bake Off voice over. Farewell my tenty chum x”

It’s thought the star was working on the upcoming Christmas specials – which will see the all gang reunited for the last time.

There will be two specials – featuring Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry – this year instead of last year’s Bake Off Masterclasses.

One will air on Christmas Day and the other on Boxing Day and will feature some of the favourite contestants from past series.

While the BBC has not unveiled the full lineup, The Sun revealed two fan favourites will be gracing the show once more.

Beloved series four star Howard Middleton is making a comeback, a baker well remembered for his inadvertent mishaps in the tent.

Also returning for more fun in the tent is series three star Cathryn Dresser.

Another possibility is ‘Cake Whisperer’ Val Stones, who was booted out of the latest series during Pastry Week.

Back in September Mel and Sue – who has hosted the show since it first aired in 2010 - revealed they would not be  ‘following the dough’ and joining Channel 4.

A joint statement from the pair at the time said: “We were very shocked and saddened to learn yesterday evening that Bake Off will be moving from its home. We made no secret of our desire for the show to remain where it was.

“The BBC nurtured the show from its infancy and helped give it its distinctive warmth and charm, growing it from an audience of two million to nearly 15 at its peak.”

They added: “We’ve had the most amazing time on Bake Off, and have loved seeing it rise and rise like a pair of yeasted Latvian baps.
“We’re not going with the dough. We wish all the future bakers every success.”
Mary Berry, 81 also made the decision to leave after seven year, saying: “What a privilege and honour it has been to be part of 7 years of magic in a tent – The Great British Bake Off.

“The Bake Off family – Paul, Mel and Sue have given me so much joy and laughter.

“My decision to stay with the BBC is out of loyalty to them, as they have nurtured me, and the show, that was a unique and brilliant format from day one.

“Farewell to soggy bottoms.”

Paul Hollywood however decided to take the huge pay package and move to Channel 4 - which caused a great deal of controversy.

Defending his decision, the baking hunk told The Sun: “Who in their right mind would walk away from a job that you absolutely adore?”
