New wife Whitney pushes Lee Carter to his absolute limits in forthcoming EastEnders episode – but will it lead to suicide?
Christmas is coming to Walford... we all know what that means
EASTENDERS fans expecting a death this Christmas have been given a new clue as to who will go.
Actor Danny-Boy Hatchard, who plays depressed Lee Carter in the BBC soap, has revealed that his short marital life will take a turn for the worst some time between now and New Year.
Fans of the show will know that already things are looking pretty dire for the ex-soldier as he struggles with his illness and the pressures of his job, being bullied and lying to his family about his income, status and involvement in a staged armed robbery that left his disabled brother traumatised.
At home he has problems too, with devoted new wife Whitney still pestering him to consummate their marriage.
Sadly for Whit - played by Shona McGarty - it looks like she might be the straw that breaks the camel's back when she drops a 'surprise bombshell' just in time for Christmas.
Bosses are keeping her dynamite revelation under wraps, but Danny-Boy warned the Radio Times: "His depression is going to escalate and it's a hard-hitting thing for people to watch.
"I've had people writing to me saying that the storyline has been unbearable because it's like watching themselves. But that means we're doing our jobs properly."
Fans have been worried that Lee might take his own life, especially after Danny-Boy revealed he was leaving the soap.
His depression has been an underlying theme in the show for months, and was triggered after his mum was raped by his cousin - who was actually his uncle.
He has since spun a never ending web of lies, relying on payday loans to fund his everyday life and even robbed a charity collection so he could put down a deposit on a bedsit for him and Whitney to call their own.
